Obituary of James "Jim" Edward Garvin

James Edward Garvin, 58, of Essexville, formerly of Gardner, Kansas, our strong willed, loving, and fun father, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the afternoon of Sunday, August 18, 2019 at McLaren Bay Region, with his family by his side. Jim was born on April 7, 1961, in Canton, Ohio, the son of Edward and Carolynne (Kingston) Garvin. Jim graduated from Tecumseh High School and went onto attend Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree. He worked for Chrysler Financial, Kansas City Railroad, and the Internal Revenue Service. Jim was a member of The Church of Resurrection Leawood in Kansas, Ducks Unlimited, the NRA, and ASPC.  Throughout life, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, John Wayne films, and watching football; especially U of M and Kansas City Chiefs. Jim was known for fun loving presence and how much his family and dogs, Duke and Barkley meant to him. He will be missed dearly for generations to come. Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his two children, Matthew Garvin of Olathe, Kansas and Jessica Saluto of Lawrence, Kansas; his mother, Carolynne Garvin of Essexville; sister, Karen (Alan) Sprague of Bay City; nieces, Meghan Sprague and Kaitlyn Sprague; aunts and uncles, Charles (Sonya) Kingston, William (Jane) Garvin, and James (Glenda) Kingston; five cousins; his two beloved dogs, Duke and Barkley, along with several friends. In addition to his father, James was welcomed home to heaven by his grandparents; Edward T. and Florence Garvin and Charles and Betty Kingston.
