Betsy Leila Sermon, 73, of Bay City, our loving, strong-willed, active, and devoted mother, grandmother, soul mate, aunt, and friend passed away on the evening of Sunday, August 11, 2019 at home, with her family by her side. Betsy was born on June 29, 1946 in Bay City, the daughter of the late Clarence and Nettie (McCartney) Hamann. Betsy grew up on her family’s farm, Monitor Hatchery and graduated from Central High School, class of 1965. After high school, Betsy went on to become a cosmetologist; first working at Gala Salon and then mostly from her home. In 1985 while out with friends, Betsy met George A. Pauwels, they dated, fell in love, and were together for over 33 years, sharing countless memories. She was active with the Ladies Auxiliary - AMVets Post 22 and win or lose, she was a diehard Tiger’s Fan. Betsy was an avid camper, spending many summers in Glennie at the Alcona Park Campground. Those who knew Betsy, will forever remember her love of cooking, fishing, going to deer camp, taking trips to craft shows, and ordering from her magazines. Above all, she loved being a grandma; her granddaughter, Reagan was the light of her life. Betsy will be missed dearly and lovingly remembered for generations to come.
