Obituary of James Arthur Stephan
James Arthur Stephan, 68, of Bay City, our strong-willed and passionate father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on the afternoon of Friday, August 2, 2019 at McLaren Bay Region. Jim was born in Big Rapids on October 25, 1950, the son of the late James Edward and Ida (Johnson) Stephan. He formerly worked as a mechanical engineer at American Hoist, and later retired from Case Systems in Midland. Jim was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Bay City, and absolutely loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and above all, enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He leaves to carry on his legacy, his two daughters, Jennifer (Ryan) Manz and Kari Rathjen; grandson, Dakota (Lorissa) Manz; great-grandson, Levi James Manz; sisters, Elaine (Jim) Wutke, Edna McCann, and Veva Thomas, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. As Jim would always say, “Fish on, get the net!” A Life Celebration will be held in the near future at The Silver Palace in Essexville. Memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of the Bay City State Park (Kid’s Fishing Fund). A memorial for James will be held on September 3, 2019 at 11:00AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 501 S. Catherine St., Bay City, with a luncheon to follow. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
