Obituary of Mary Ann LaLonde

Mary Ann LaLonde, 84, of Charlevoix, formerly of Midland and Saginaw, our loving, compassionate, artistic, strong, and brave mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend was born into eternal life on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at her home, with her family by her side. Mary Ann was born on September 27, 1934 in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred (Suchy) Cutting. Mary Ann grew up on a farm, milking cows and could always be found hoeing the fields. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School. It was during high school she met the love of her life, John LaLonde – Mary Ann had put pine needles down his shirt and the rest is history. Mary Ann and John were united in marriage on November 14, 1953 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Zilwaukee. Sadly, John preceded Mary Ann in death on November 30, 2009. Together they had shared over 56 years of marriage, seven beautiful daughters, and countless memories. Mary Ann worked at Sunshine Bakery, was the manager of Valley Lanes, The Establishment, the night manager of LaLonde’s Market & Deli, and was a babysitter to many. She was a member of the Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts, active with the PTA, Elk’s Club, the Blessed Sacrament Choir, and the Bishop’s Choir. Mary Ann, who was also affectionately known as “Honey” and “Hot Rod Annie,” was a human rights activist and always made sure her family was well cared for. Throughout life, Mary Ann was known for her love of music, reading, painting, crocheting, holiday baking, bike riding, and crafting. She loved the outdoors, always going camping, waterfall hunting, and watching the birds only second to her love of watching the Detroit Tigers with Rachel. Mary Ann was a huge animal lover, especially of her dogs and cats, Sparkie, Butterscotch, and Angel. She loved having big family dinners and playing card games – Pedro, Euchre, and Tri-ominos. Mary Ann was a traveler and adventurer who will be missed very dearly and lovingly remembered for generations to come. Mary Ann leaves to carry on her legacy, her daughters, Deborah (Jerry) Selcz, Linda LaLonde, Rosemarie (Chris) Ignash, Sandra (Daniel) Manninen, and Jennifer LaLonde; grandchildren, Sean (Jessica) Valenzuela, Jason (Alma) Valenzuela, Jack Ignash, Carrie Manninen, Rebecca LaLonde, Leeza LaLonde, Katerina LaLonde, and Rachel LaLonde; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Valenzuela, Isabelle and Olivia Valenzuela; siblings, Carolyn (Ronald) Bremmer, Henry (Sandy) Cutting, and William Cutting, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ann was welcomed home to heaven by her daughters, Karen LaLonde and Heidi LaLonde, and in-laws, John D.and Catherine LaLonde. Mary Ann's family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp.
