Obituary of James King Leggett
James King Leggett, 67, of Essexville, our devoted, generous, and family-oriented husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Ascension – St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. Jim was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 11, 1951, the son of Rev. John and Dottie (Ashley) Leggett. He graduated from Jefferson Area High School in Ohio and went on to attend Sioux Falls College. Jim later earned his Master of Education Degree in Counseling from South Dakota State University. While in high school, Jim met the former Christine Lekander. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on August 15, 1970. Jim was employed for many years helping the youth at South Dakota State Penitentiary, Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota, Lutheran Child & Family Services of Michigan (now Wellspring), Wolverine Human Services, Opportunity of Michigan, New Dimensions, V.O.I.C.E., D.K. Chapman & Associates, and the Great Lakes Loons. Jim donated his talents to many non-profit and charitable organizations. Everyone Jim met was a friend, and if they weren’t, they became one within ten minutes. Jim was always one to help anyone in need. He enjoyed fishing, especially at the “Carp Off,” where he was his son, Mike’s tournament partner, along with trying his luck at the casino, watching sports, birdwatching, gardening, and above all, time spent with his family, especially on family vacations. Jim touched countless lives and will be deeply missed. He leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife of nearly 49 years, Christine and children, Michael J. Leggett and Jennifer M. Leggett (Bradley Lawrence); father, Rev. John M. Leggett; brothers, John A. (Ellie) Leggett, Joseph R. (Wendy) Leggett, Jerry D. (Patsy) Leggett, Jeffrey C. (Gail) Leggett; sister, Joyce (David) Grigg, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Jim was welcomed home to heaven by his mother, Dottie, and son, Andrew C. Leggett. Jim's family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 10:00 AM until Jim's 11:00 AM Celebration of Life at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N.
