Obituary of Florence "Flip" May West

Florence May “Flip” West, 88, of Essexville, our strong, friendly, and most loving mother, Nan, great-grandma, aunt, and friend was born into eternal life on the evening of Monday, July 1, 2019 at McLaren Bay Region. Flip was born on January 3, 1931 in Bay City, the daughter of the late Fred J. and Elsie (Leonard) Dore. While at a dance, Flip met James West. Their first date was at White’s Drive In, and they ended up falling in love and were united in marriage on May 21, 1959. Sadly, James preceded Flip in death on November 26, 1994. Flip worked as an assistant for Dr. Freel and went on to become a wonderful homemaker, raising seven children, who were the lights of her life. Flip enjoyed listening to music, loved to cook – especially her “Scotcheroos,” and enjoyed time spent on her front porch hosting “Veranda Parties.” Flip always found the good in everyone and will be missed dearly, but lovingly remembered for generations to come. Flip leaves to cherish her memory, her children, James West (Sally Hair), Mary West, John West, Robert (Michele) West, Richard (Julie) West, Patrick (Jamie) West, and Michael (Laura) West; grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, Amanda, Shannon, Jessica, Cody,  Emily, Julia, Matthew, Andrea, Ashley, Luke, Ricky, Sarah, Lyric, Ireland, Kacey, Sydney, Elias, and Wyatt; great-grandchildren, James, Jesse, Brendan, Kannon, Sienna, Jahriah, Leelynd, and Emberlee, along with her niece, Jean (Jerry) Pelletier; nephew, Jim (Nancy) Stevenson, and many additional nieces, nephews, and countless friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Flip was welcomed home to heaven by her grandson, Joshua; great-grandchildren, Blake and Isaiah; sister, Geraldine (Michael) Stevenson, along with her special friend, Laurence “Pa” Jacobs. Flip’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 5:30 PM Vigil at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Saturday, July 6, 2019, Flip will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of her 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Kawkawlin. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
