Obituary of Mary Ellen Gorzenski
Mary Ellen Gorzenski, 90, of Bay City, our courageous, loving, smart, tenacious and strong-willed mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend passed peacefully into the arms of God on June 30, 2019, at Bay County Medical Care Facility, surrounded by her loving family. Mary Ellen was born in Linwood on August 23, 1928, the daughter of the late Theodore and Ruth (Gies) Moore. She attended school in Linwood until 8th grade and went on to graduate from Bay City Central High School in 1946. On August 26, 1950, Mary Ellen married Virgil C. Gorzenski at St. Ann’s Church in Linwood. Sadly, Virgil preceded Mary Ellen in death in 1957. She courageously raised her four children on her own. Mary Ellen had a passion for caring for others that lead her to LPN Nursing School, graduating president of her class in 1969. Those who knew Mary Ellen know how passionate she was about her career, even receiving a bouquet of roses from the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery after 20 years of dedicated nursing at Bay Medical Center (now McLaren Bay Region.) In her free time, Mary Ellen enjoyed camping with her children, reading, traveling, crossword puzzles, board games, crocheting, and baking delicious treats for her family and friends. Mary Ellen will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered for generations to come. Mary Ellen leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Linda (Gregory) Hernden of Farwell, Michigan, Suzanne (Michael) Molyneaux of Whitehall, Montana, Cheryl (Kevin) Steen of Traverse City, Michigan, and Peter (Tomoko) Gorzenski of Bay City, Michigan; grandchildren, Christopher (Betty) Hernden of Farwell, Thomas (Angela) Hernden of Midland, Carrie (Chad) Robbins of Bay City, Marcus Fuller of Bozeman, Montana, Meghan (Tim) Gervais of Homer, Alaska, Alison (Kristian) Richardson of Bozeman, Montana, Emily Fuller of Helena, Montana, Cara (Kellen) Schuh of San Diego, California, Andrew (Jennifer) Steen of Mandeville, Louisiana, Sachi Gorzenski of Lansing, Mari Gorzenski of Lansing, and Miki (Kevin) Hendrick of Highland; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel (Frank) Pashak of Linwood; in-law, Barb Kerkau of Bay City and Thomas Gorzenski of Fenton, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
