Obituary of Donald Jay Verhaeghe
Donald Jay Verhaeghe, 59, of Essexville, our wonderful, loving, caring, witty, dependable, and most generous brother, uncle, and loyal friend was born into eternal life on the evening of Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Brian’s House. Donnie was born in Pigeon on July 9, 1959, the son of the late Donald Joseph “Zeke” and Elaine Marie (Kleido) Verhaeghe. He was a 1978 graduate of Garber High School. Donnie enjoyed going to the casinos, playing poker and Euchre, and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Don enjoyed frequenting the bar and enjoying his Michelob Ultra. Always one to be a part of the action, Donnie was the voluntary bartender, always until closing time, at all the family parties and community beer tents. He enjoyed working outdoors and being of help to anyone in need. Donnie leaves to carry on his legacy, his siblings: Darold Verhaeghe, Dawn (James) Seidel, Debra (Steven) Gallagher, and Dean (Lisa) Verhaeghe. He was the most supportive and proud uncle of Christopher Netzley (fiancée, Alesa Hughson), Kathleen, Briana, and Keely Gallagher, and Raegen and Robynn Verhaeghe. Donnie was the beloved honorary son of The Lokajtys Family and leaves behind his dear friends, Judy & Pat Lokajtys, Pam & Ed Lesniak, Lori Bowker, and Joe & Julie Lokajtys, along with their families, many cousins, and his Friday Tim Hortons friends, Gary and Melissa. In addition to his parents, Donnie was welcomed home to heaven by his brother, Dennis Verhaeghe; niece, Rachel Verhaeghe; grandparents, Gaston & Dora Verhaeghe and Roy & Marge Kleido, along with many aunts and uncles. Donnie’s family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday, June 9, 2019 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Vigil, followed by a Tribute Reception at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp.
