Obituary of Terrance John Cavanaugh
Terrance John Cavanaugh, 75, of Bay City, our loving, caring, and most devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on Monday, April 29, 2019 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. Terry was born in Bay City on July 16, 1943, the son of the late James and Frances (Schueller) Cavanaugh. Through friends, Terry happened to meet the former Susan Balwinski. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on February 12, 1966 at Holy Trinity Church. Terry was a 1961 graduate of T.L. Handy High School and went on to proudly serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Throughout life, Terry always remained very patriotic. After 42 years of dedicated service, Terry retired from CSX Railroad, where he was a conductor. He was the Union Treasurer of UTU Local 1761 for over 30 years. Terry enjoyed riding his bike, traveling, listening to classic country music, and feeding the squirrels in his backyard. A devout servant of the Lord, Terry was a faithful parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish (Holy Trinity Church), where he was an active usher for over 52 years, a member of the Resurrection Choir, and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Terry also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Council #414 and was a member of the Bishop Murphy Assembly #491. His unwavering love for his family, especially his grandchildren, along with Terry’s kind ways will live on for years to come. Terry leaves to carry on his legacy, his faithful wife of 53 years, Sue, and their four sons: Michael (Susan M.) Cavanaugh, Scott Cavanaugh, Brian Cavanaugh, and Jason Cavanaugh; grandchildren, Allison, Abigail, and Brighton Cavanaugh; sisters, Rosemary Zauner and Jane (Edward) VanDorn; sisters-in-law, Shirley Cavanaugh, Maureen (John) Finn, and Lorraine Munley, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. In addition to his parents, Terry was predeceased by his brother, James Cavanaugh and brothers-in-law, Thomas Zauner, Robert (Vera) Balwinski, and Ted Balwinski. Terry’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Tribute Reception beginning at 6:30 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Wenona St., where visiting will continue from 4:00 PM until Terry’s 7:00 PM Bible Presentation, Chalice Presentation, and Vigil, all of which will be held at church. Visiting will continue Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 10:00 AM until Terry’s 11:00 AM Funeral Liturgy at Corpus Christi Parish (Holy Trinity Church). Fr. Robert Kelm, Fr. Kevin Kerbawy, and Fr. Bert Gohm will concelebrate. Military honors under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council and U.S. Marine Corps will follow, with the Rite of Committal to be held privately in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family, for a Rail Trail Memorial Bench to be created at a later date. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland, especially the doctors and nursing staff of the 5th floor and 3rd floor Medical ICU for their excellent and compassionate care.
