Obituary of Robert "Mac" Daniel McDonald
Robert “Mac” Daniel McDonald, 89, of Bay City, our strong-willed, hardworking, and devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away on April 28, 2019, at Brookdale-Bay City. Robert was born on March 2, 1930, the only child of the late, Daniel and Blodwin (Hughes) McDonald. Mac graduated from Saginaw High School and went on to serve his country as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict; He was in the 187th Airborne R.C. “Rakkasans.” After returning from duty, while he was walking down the street, he happened upon the love of his life, the former Carole A. Brink. They were united in marriage on April 15, 1955, and shared almost 55 years of marriage; sadly, Carole predeceased Robert on February 28, 2010. Mac was the former proprietor of RAP Products Inc. Mac was known for his love of boating, taking his boat up to Mackinac Island with the kids when they were younger – he always traveled by boat when possible, he loved the water. He was a longtime member of the Elk’s Club and Moose Lodge, and in his younger years was an Eagle Scout. Mac was a wonderful piano player and the best grandpa; his grandchildren were the light of his life. Mac always looked out for others and will be missed dearly but lovingly remembered for generations to come. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Kay Matousek and Kelly (Connie) McDonald; grandchildren, Jonathon Matousek and Shay (Joel) Beson; step-grandchildren Melissa (Craig) Freeman; step-great-grandchildren Craig III, Carter, Cruz, Claire Freeman; brothers-in-law, John Brink and Dan Mutton; cousin, Jack (Janet) Hughes; nieces and nephews, Rick (Judy) Bagley, Shelli (Tom) Nellett, Jim (Amy) Brink, Jeff (Kristie) Stack, Scott (Jacquie) Brink, Keith (Stacy) Brink, Jason (Jaime) Stack, and Greg Stack, along with many friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mac was welcomed home to heaven by his son, Kirk McDonald; son-in-law, John Matousek; sisters-in-law, Carol Brink and Connie Mutton. Robert’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, May 3, 2019, from 2:00 PM until the time of his 7:00 PM Life Celebration at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Brookdale - Bay City for their compassionate care.
