Obituary of Kurt Ellis Schian
Kurt Schian, 48, of Hemlock, our loving, caring, funny, and most kind brother, uncle, and friend was welcomed into eternal life on the evening of Monday, April 1, 2019. Kurt was born in Saginaw on July 26, 1970, the son of the late Eugene and Rita (Russ) Ellis. Kurt loved movies, especially scary ones. He was an avid fan of Star Wars, University of Michigan Football, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers and enjoyed outings to the Great Lakes Loons and Saginaw Spirit. Kurt loved everything about the Christmas season, especially wearing a Santa hat and yearly trips to Bronner's. He enjoyed playing board games with his close friend Jerry, and loved superheroes; Batman was his favorite. Kurt enjoyed passing out candy to the kids at Halloween and celebrating his birthday each year with a special superhero birthday cake, made by Beth. One of Kurt’s proudest moments was when he won a bronze medal at the world Special Olympics in Connecticut in 1995 for bowling, which was presented to him by the late Paul Newman, along with many other medals received during his time with the Special Olympics. Most dear to his heart were his nieces, Chelsie and Rachael. His kind and gentle ways will always be lovingly remembered. Kurt leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Kimm (Dan) Fuller and nieces, Chelsie (Jordan) Chacon and Rachael Fuller; dear friend and caregiver, Jerry Kelcherman, and housekeeper and friend, Tracy Brown. In addition to his parents, Kurt was welcomed home to heaven by his grandmother, Rosalind Russ. Kurt's family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at St. Agnes Parish (in the youth hall), 300 Johnson Street, Freeland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Special Olympics, Muscular Dystrophy Association or the wishes of the family. Final arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services (formerly Reitz-Herzberg), 1550 Midland Rd., between State & Gratiot. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
