Obituary of Cecilia Fritz (Stapish)
Cecilia Patricia Fritz, 98, of Bay City, our hard-working and sometimes feisty mother and grandmother was born into eternal life on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Francis Home in Shields after a twelve-year battle with Alzheimer's. Cecilia was born in Bay City on May 16, 1920, the youngest child of the late Thomas and Nora (Doherty) Stapish. Through friends, she met Kenneth John Fritz. After Ken returned from the war, they were united in marriage on November 22, 1945 at St. Mary's Church. Sadly, Ken preceded Cecilia in death in 2011. Throughout life, Cecelia worked in various office capacities, eventually retiring as a saleswoman for office supplies. After retiring, she enjoyed 17 years in Port Richey, Florida, where she was an avid golfer. In her younger years, Cecilia was an avid bowler. Prior to moving to Florida, she was an active parishioner at St. Hedwig Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and assisted with bingo. Upon returning home, Cecelia became a parishioner of St. Hyacinth Church. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and past president of the American Business Women's Association, and was also a former member of the Moose and Elks lodges. Cecilia leaves to cherish her memory, her two children: Jeannine (Douglas) Dodge of Bay City and Thomas Fritz of Saginaw; grandchildren, David Jankowiak, Kerri (Ryan) Moore, Kelly (Chris) Carque, Karl (Margo) Fritz, Elizabeth Ann (Baron) Miller, and Eric T. Fritz; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Cecilia was welcomed home to heaven by her siblings: Dorothy (Al) Smith, Edward (Gertrude "Molly") Stapish, Margaret (Jack) Fletcher, Zita (Alvin) Lewis, Gertrude (Larry) Pelletier, and Francis Stapish. Cecelia's family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 9:00 AM until Cecilia's 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Hyacinth Church), 1515 Cass Ave., Bay City. Fr. George Serour will officiate and the Rite of Committal will be held privately in St. Patrick Mausoleum. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Francis Home for their patience and fantastic care through the years. Final arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp.
