Obituary of Mildred "Millie" Gordon

Millie Mae Gordon, 92, of Essexville, our loving, selfless, humorous, and most beautiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, December 15, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her devoted family. Millie was born in Ann Arbor on August 13, 1926, the oldest of six and the daughter of the late Hiriam and Lucille (Beaver) Johnson. Through her best friend, Shirley Gordon, she met Shirley’s brother, Lawrence “Buck” Gordon. Millie and Buck, along with Shirley and Robert Iler were united in marriage in a double wedding ceremony on May 3, 1947 at First Methodist Church in Bay City. After raising seven children, Millie returned to Saginaw Valley State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor Degree in social work, where she then worked for Child & Family Services for eight years. In her free time, Millie enjoyed camping, bridge club, and was an avid reader. A true lover of animals, Millie had a fondness for birds. Millie was a remarkable woman, who was beautiful on the inside and out; always putting the needs of others before her own. Left to cherish her memory, are her children: Scott (Peggy) Gordon of Seabrook, TX, Gary (Ginny) Gordon of Essexville, Larry (Pam) Gordon of Atlanta, Terry Gordon of Essexville, Mike (Sue) Gordon of Grand Ledge, Tom (Lori) Gordon of Traverse City; daughter-in-law, JoAnne Gordon; grandchildren, Douglas and Jennifer Gordon, Victoria, Wyndham (Savanah) Gordon, Jessica (Ronnie) Heath, Benjamin (Aubrey) Gordon, Michael and Trever Gordon, Daniel Frasik, Danielle Gordon (fiancée, Andy Young), and Brandon & Devin Gordon; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Joaquin, Adriel, Briella Mae, Hudson, Blake, Rowan, Alden, and Sophie; brother, James (Karen) Johnson; sister-in-law, Donna Alston; two dogs and faithful companions, Angel and Princess, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless others whose lives Millie touched. In addition to her parents, Millie was welcomed home to heaven by her husband, Lawrence “Buck” Gordon; son, Craig Lee Gordon; brothers, Frederick, Robert, and William (Betty) Johnson, and sister, Joan (Leon) Farrell. Millie’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, Millie will be taken to Essexville Baptist Community Church, 1001 Main St., where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until Millie’s 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony. Rev.
