Obituary of Jennifer Jean Seifferly
Jennifer Jean Seifferly, 52, of Bay City, our kind, adventurous, caring, compassionate, and witty wife, mother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend was born into eternal life on the morning of Friday, October 19, 2018 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer, under the care of her devoted husband. Jen was born on January 18, 1966, the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Virginia “Ginny” (Jones) Surprenant. She graduated with the last graduating class from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in 1984 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in teaching from Western Michigan University. Jen continued her education, earning her Master of Arts in teaching from Saginaw Valley State University. On December 12, 1992, Jen was united in marriage to Robert S. Seifferly. Jen was a devoted educator, and taught first grade at St. Helen’s Catholic School for the first four years of her career. She then stayed home to raise her children for several years. When the children were in grade school, Jen began teaching as an Adjunct Professor at Saginaw Valley State University for 14 years in the Education Department. She enjoyed camping, hiking, bike riding, reading and collecting books, traveling to Europe (Italy, France, Sweden, and England), going to Art Prize and art fairs, along with attending musicals. She was an original founding member of the F.A.C.E (Fantastic Annual Camping Extravaganza) since 1997, camping with up to 50 family members all over the state for a week for the last 22 years. Jen’s zest for life will never be forgotten; she will be deeply missed, yet lovingly remembered for years to come. Jen leaves to carry on her legacy, her devoted husband of 25 years, Robert and their two children, Megan Seifferly and Ryan Seifferly. Also surviving are her siblings, Gigi (Bob) Hanley, Johnny Surprenant (Linda Fandell), Mimi (Tom) Kostrzewa, Ann “Sam” (Bill) Wildey; mother-in-law, Nora Seifferly; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Aileen) Seifferly and Rick Seifferly; sister-in-law, Deb (Bob) Martens, along with 18 nieces and nephews, 26 great nieces and nephews; dear friends, Shelli Reiss Thomas and Cynthia Keckeisen, along with the entire Ten T & A.D. Book Club, and her loving pet Schnoodle for the last 12 years, Chloe. In addition to her parents, Jen was predeceased by her father-in-law, James Seifferly. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice, especially to Jennifer Hokanson for the wonderful care given these past few months.
