Obituary of Daniel "Danny" Eugene Herman

Daniel Eugene Herman, 87, of Unionville, our patient, gentle, dignified, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on Sunday, June 3, 2018 with his family by his side.  Danny was born on March 2, 1931 in Unionville, the son of the late Daniel and Laura Eugenia (Ackerman) Herman. Danny was a proud Boy Scout.  While on the bus in high school, Danny met the former, Eva “Jean” Gainforth. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on November 28, 1953. Together they shared nearly 65 years, four beautiful daughters, and countless memories. In 1954, Danny answered the call of his country and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from the Army, Danny carried on his father’s legacy working the family farm; harvesting sugar beets, corn, beans, and wheat. He liked to scuba dive, was an avid golfer – with three holes-in-one to his name, loved traveling across the world, and vacationing in Florida for 20 years. Danny was one of the Founding Directors at Independent Bank in Unionville, a Board Member of Sebewaing Sugar Beet Growers Association from 1974-1994, a 32 Degree Mason of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Michigan, and a member of Wisner United Methodist Church. Danny will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially at dusk. He will be missed dearly.  Danny leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jean; their four daughters, DeAnn (James) Sattelberg, Dawn (Gary) Pawlak, Denise (Brent) Mowry, and Dale (Lucian) Labozzetta; ten grandchildren, Sarah (Bill) Mokma, Benjamin (Katie) Sattelberg, Matthew (Megan) Sattelberg, Rebecca Fritz, Adam (Josona) Linzner, Nicholas (Laura) Mowry, Kyle (Sarah) Mowry, Nathan (Rachael) Martens, Zachary Martens, and Lauren Labozzetta; 20 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Danny was welcomed home to heaven by his sisters, Edna Alway, Vivian Howell, Maxine Strieter, and Betty MacLean; brothers-in-law, Robert Strieter and William MacLean, and great-granddaughter Evlin Linzner.  Danny’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 10:00 AM until the time of his 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony at Wisner United Methodist Church, 5375 N. Vassar Rd., Akron, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be held in Demorest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Care Team Hospice or Wisner United Methodist Church. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremations Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp.
