Obituary of Dorothy Basner
Dorothy Basner, 90, of Bay City, our giving, caring, loving, humorous, and devoted grandmother and sister was born into eternal life on the morning of May 13, 2018. Dorothy was born in Arenac County on April 24, 1928 to the late Franklin and Grace (Smith) Peters. On December 27, 1943, Dorothy married the love of her life, Elmer S. Basner. Together they shared nearly 58 years, three children, and countless memories; sadly, Elmer predeceased Dorothy on December 1, 2001. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and an amazing homemaker; she also cleaned houses and worked at a dry cleaner. Those who knew Dorothy knew her love of sewing, crocheting, quilting, and baking – especially her delicious apple pies. She also had quite the sweet tooth, always making sure she had her beloved sweets on hand. Dorothy was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother and always made family time a priority. She will be missed dearly. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren, Heather M. Basner, Sarah (Tony) Wright, and William G. (Carol) Basner II; great-grandchildren, Allyson Wright, Benjamin Wright, and Hannah Wright, along with one sister. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was welcomed home to heaven by her children, Beverly A. Basner, William G. Basner I, and Baby Girl Basner; great-grandson, Aaron Wright, along with two brothers and three sisters. Dorothy’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 10:00 AM until the time of Dorothy’s 12:00 Noon Life Celebration at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s. Following the Reception, interment will be held in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
