Obituary of Lloyd John Helmreich
Lloyd John Helmreich, 68, of Bay City, our caring, loving, strong, often stubborn, and most devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on May 3, 2018. Lloyd was born on June 22, 1949 in Bay City, the son of the late Harold and Leona (Kernstock) Helmreich. Lloyd graduated from Handy High School with the Class of 1967 and went on to work at General Motors for 25 years before his retirement on April 1, 1995. He was a licensed builder and the owner of S&H Home Improvement, Inc. from 1993 until 2010. On July 31, 1971, Lloyd married the love of his life, the former Linda Jo Rettelle. Together they shared 46 years, two daughters, and countless memories. Lloyd was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and won Bay County’s 2003 Builder of the Year Award. Lloyd was a member of the Crump Conservation Club, Linwood-Bay Sportsman Club, and Bay County Home Builders Association, where he served as president in 2003. He was also a lifetime State Director of the Michigan Association of Home Builders and was awarded the 2015 Lifetime Membership Award with the Bay County Home Builders Association. For the last seven years, Lloyd worked for AAA Transport & Limousine, where he enjoyed transporting special needs children, who were so very important to him, to and from school. Those who knew Lloyd, which seemed to be everyone, knew of his gift of gab, love for hunting, golfing, woodworking, spending time with his family, and that he always made sure to stay in touch with his friends and fellow GM retirees. He will be missed dearly. Lloyd leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Linda; their daughters, Kris Christian and Kerri (Mike) LaFore; granddaughters, Hannah Van Horn and Maggie and Lillie LaFore; siblings, Irene (Murl) Hoppe, Carol Seaver, and Floyd Helmreich; in-laws, Joe and Elaine Rettelle, along with several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Lloyd was welcomed home to heaven by his sisters, Ella Ferguson and Doris Feinauer, and his son-in-law, OJ Christian. Private arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. The entire family wishes to thank Lloyd’s boss, Chris from AAA for going above and beyond for the family. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
