Obituary of Raymond Peter Kirchhofer
Raymond Peter Kirchhofer, 83, of Bay City, our loving, devoted, and courageous husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend entered into eternal life on the morning of Monday, January 29, 2018. Raymond was born in Beaverdam, Wisconsin on September 27, 1934, the son of the late Peter and Aurelia (Zweig) Kirchhofer. Raymond, or “Grumpy” as he was affectionately known as, graduated from T.L. Handy High School. While in high school, Raymond met the love of his life, the former Patricia Roberts. They were married on June 26, 1954. Together they shared 63 ½ wonderful years, three children, and countless memories. Raymond served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1952-1960 and went on to be a police officer. He retired from the Bay City Police Department as a Lieutenant after 30 years of service. During his career, he received many meritorious and courageous awards. Raymond was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #103. Raymond enjoyed family gatherings, coffee with friends, the casino, gardening, fishing, and hunting. Raymond lived by The Golden Rule and will be missed dearly. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Patricia; their three children, Susan (William) Shaw, Karen Shaler, and William (Sharon) Kirchhofer; grandchildren, Kristin (Daniel) Hilgart and Lisa (Eric) Muir; great-grandchildren, Faith, Neri, and Trinity Hilgart and a little girl, Baby Muir, on the way. He also leaves his siblings, Marian Knaggs, Betty (Ray) Mrozinski, Arlene (Fred) Walter, and Richard (Rose) Kirchhofer. In addition to his parents, Raymond was welcomed home to heaven by his siblings, Beatrice Cook, Nancy Peil, and Shirley Weiss. Raymond’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Friday, February 2, 2018, Raymond will be taken to Our Lady of Peace Parish (St. Mary of the Assumption Church), 607 E. South Union St., Bay City, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of his 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Patrick Jankowiak will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to McLaren Hospice or Our Lady of Peace Parish (St. Mary of the Assumption Church) Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
