Obituary of Robert Clinton Hafford M.D.
Robert Clinton Hafford, M.D., 90 of Bay City and Naples, Florida, our strong and loving patriarch, captain, and friend died peacefully on the morning of Monday, January 15, 2018. Dr. Hafford was born in Albion on February 18, 1927, the son of the late Clarence and Frances (Dodd) Hafford. He spent most of his childhood in Glen Rock, New Jersey and graduated from Wesleyan University. His studies were furthered at Cornell University in New York City, where Dr. Hafford graduated from medical school in 1950. It’s at Cornell where he met and fell in love with the former Audrey Kellogg, who was working in the lab. Audrey preceded him in death on April 21, 2011 after 63 years of marriage. Dr. Hafford served as a captain in a U.S. Army MASH unit in Germany. He was a respected internist, practicing in Bay City from 1956-1986. In his spare time, Dr. Hafford was an avid boater, and enjoyed captaining conservancy tours in Florida. He also enjoyed birding, traveling the country in his R.V., and was a member of the American Medical Association and Bay Medical Society. Known for his lively humor and kindness, Dr. Hafford would often recall details of the many lives he touched. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his children, Dr. Robert K. (Linda) Hafford, Ruth Hafford, Peter (Jill) Hafford, Dr. Thomas (Leigh Ann) Hafford, and Juliet (Barbara Trippe) Hafford; grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca, Peter, Christopher (Jenny), Anna (Ryan), Matthew, Elliott, and Graeme, along with many great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Jones and brother, Gene (Patty) Hafford. Dr. Hafford’s family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 10:00 AM until his 11:00 AM Memorial Ceremony at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Center Ave., Bay City.
