Obituary of Leon Raymond Freel
Leon Raymond Freel, 83 of Bay City, our generous and loving husband, brother, and uncle was born into eternal life on Monday, August 28, 2017 at The Carriage House. Leon was born in Madison, Wisconsin on January 22, 1934, the son of the late John Freel, M.D. and Agnes (Krzewina) Freel and the oldest child of the family. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and completed high school at Marimon Military Academy in Aurora, Illinois. Leon proudly served our country with the U.S. Army in Germany. In grade school, he met the former Judith O’Leary. Later in life they reconnected and were united in marriage on April 4, 1964 in St. Joseph’s Church. Known and well respected for his excellent mechanical skills, Leon was employed by Palmer Oil Company. He later worked and retired from Dow Chemical Company. He had a true love for old cars and will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered by his entire family, especially his nieces and nephews. Leon leaves behind to carry on his legacy, his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Judy and his siblings:Peter (Mary Ann) Freel, George (Shirley) Freel, Don (Kathy) Freel, Charles (Carol Ann) Freel, Paul (Terry) Freel, Mary (Les) Green, Patricia (Larry) Hill; sisters-in-law, Janie Freel and Louise Freel; goddaughters, Heidi Hegenauer, Kellie Carlson, Angela Green, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leon was welcomed home to heaven by his brothers, Barney, Jerome (Yvonne), Thomas, Michael (Carol), and John. Leon’s family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 9:00 AM until Leon’s 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Entombment will follow in St. Patrick’s Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
