Obituary of Lorraine Marie Raeck
Lorraine Marie Raeck, 84, of Essexville, our caring, friendly, and fun-loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend died on the morning of Sunday, June 11, 2017 at her home following a short illness. Lorraine was born in Bay City on May 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Leon and Augusta (Verbrugge) Foret. She was united in marriage to Carl Anthony Raeck the day after her birthday, on May 12, 1956. Carl preceded Lorraine in death on November 3, 2014. Throughout life, Lorraine was known for her generous and kind ways. She worked for many years in the food service department for Essexville-Hampton Public Schools and was a faithful parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, where she was a member of the altar society and a eucharistic minister. Always putting others first, Lorraine was the charter president of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. VanRooy Council Ladies Auxiliary and was very involved with the Essexville-Hampton Lions Club. She enjoyed crocheting for The United Way and was also a member of the auxiliary at the Bay Medical Care Facility. Dominos and playing cards were a favorite pastime of Lorraine’s, especially Euchre. She will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered for generations to come. Lorraine was the supportive and devoted mother of Barbara and husband, Ned Sloan, David and wife, Susan Raeck, Timothy Raeck, and Carol and husband, Dr. James Campau. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren, Andy and Patrick (fiancé Katie Kleeman) Sloan, Mitchell and Allison Raeck, Max, Phillip, and Erin Campau, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Lorraine was welcomed home to heaven by her father and mother-in-law, John and Myrtle (Walraven) Raeck; siblings, Mary and husband, Huey Dembowski and Omer and wife, Stella Foret, along with her in-laws, James and wife, Blanche Raeck, Alma and husband, Fran Goulette, Lou and husband, Ellis Willett, and Kathleen Raeck. Lorraine’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 6:45 PM Lions Memorial, followed by a Vigil for Lorraine at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, Lorraine will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of Lorraine’s 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with the Rite of Committal to be held privately in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish. The entire family wishes to thank Lorraine’s neighbor, helper, and overall “Mr. Fix It,” Charles “Butch” Smith for his care and assistance.
