Mary "Marie" Evelyn Hogan

Mary “Marie” Evelyn Hogan, 96, of Bay City, our artistic, loving, and dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend was born into eternal life on June 10, 2019 at her home, with her family by her side. Marie was born on December 18, 1922 in Pinconning, the daughter of the late Ed and Ida (Valley) Berthiaume. Marie attended T.L. Handy, graduated from Bay City Central High School and went on to work at General Motors during the war. On January 24, 1944, Marie married the love of her life and wonderful dance partner, Harry Hogan; their marriage was blessed with 52 years, four children, and countless memories. Sadly, Harry preceded Marie in death on July 1, 1996. Marie was the secretary at Holy Rosary Academy for 15 years, a parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church) for over 65 years, was a member of the Altar Society, and was very active in the Essexville Dance Club with her husband. She enjoyed being a member of Studio 23, greeting at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, being active with her high school reunion committee, and attending Booked for Lunch at the library. Those who knew Marie, know of her love of knitting, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading, and painting – she loved working with watercolor, ink, and sketching. Many people were the recipients of her exceptional talents, including her beautiful artworks and custom hand knitted Christmas stockings. The legacy of Marie’s kind spirit will live on in those lives she has touched. Marie leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Michael P. (Trudy Starr) Hogan, Barbara C. (David) Warren, Katie (Richard) Vargo, and Patti (Michael) Grosskopf. She was the most loving grandmother of Jennifer Hogan, Michael (Donna) Grosskopf, Mickayla (Paul) Narlock, Patrick Grosskopf, Kimberly (T.J.) Vargo, and Breean (Sam) Warren; her great-grandchildren, Nicole Hogan, Ava Grace McClellan, Savannah Narlock, and Autumn Narlock, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was welcomed home to heaven by her grandson, Michael E. Hogan; daughter-in-law, Mary T. Hogan; siblings, Dorothy Matuszewski, Francis Berthiaume, and Lawrence Berthiaume, along with many in-laws. Marie’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Rosary for Marie at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N.
