Phyllis Louise Vegter, 91, of Bay City, went home to heaven on May 16, 2018 at Bay Shores Nursing Center. Phyllis was born in Fremont, Michigan on July 14, 1926, the daughter of the late Chauncey Oliver and Mabel (Sessions) Miller. Phyllis graduated from Muskegon High School, went on to graduate from Central Michigan University in 1949, and then furthered her studies at the University of Michigan where she received her Master’s Degree. On September 6, 1947, Phyllis married the love of her life, Ernest Vegter. Sadly, he predeceased her in 1984. She was a business education teacher at Handy High School for 31 years, she retired in 1982. Phyllis was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the YWCA, AAUW, Bay Association of Retired School Personnel, Michigan Retired School Personnel, and the University of Michigan Alumni Association. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory, her only son David. Private arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp.
