James Roman Kontranowski

James Roman Kontranowski, 71, of Bay City, our hardworking, strong-willed, and dedicated husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on Friday, September 29, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Jim was born in Hamtramck on February 4, 1946, the son of the late Roman and Alice (Pieczkowski) Kontranowski. He was a 1964 graduate of Bay City Central and proudly served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of E5. While hanging around Mr. Hot Dog, he met the former Marian Maciejewski. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on July 16, 1966. Jim was a member of the U.A.W. Local 362 and retired from General Motors – Powertrain after over 37 years of dedicated service, never missing a day of work. Following retirement, he kept busy at Krzysiak’s House Restaurant. Jim was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Hyacinth Church), where he was a former usher. Known for his excellent handyman skills, Jim could repair anything and enjoyed woodworking. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 51 years, Marian and their two sons: James (Liberty) Kontranowski and Michael (Kristin) Kontranowski. Jim was the loving papa of Kaden, Carter, Lawson, Chase, Kelsey, and Kendall. His memory will live on in the hearts of his siblings, Lawrence (Bernadette) Kontranowski and Jeanne (Rick) Brozewski; in-laws, Joseph (Marcia) Maciejewski and Chet (Peggy) Majeski, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was welcomed home to heaven by his father and mother-in-law, Chester and Genevieve Maciejewski and in-laws, Ron and Janine Schmitz and Gerard Maciejewski.
