Obituary of John A. Schiattone
John A. Schiattone, 85, of Bay City, our loyal and patriotic husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the evening of Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at HealthSource – Saginaw. John was a first generation American-Italian, born in Bay City on April 30, 1932, the son of the late John and Grace (Campeggia) Schiattone. On November 8, 1952, he was united in marriage to Beverly Boden, who survives. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 12 years and spent the next 30 years in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and eventually retiring with the rank of CW04 (Chief Warrant Officer). John re-enlisted for active duty during the Gulf War in 1990. Always involved and one to stay active, John coached football at several Catholic schools for nine years and was the co-owner, along with his brother-in-law, Kyle Phelps, of Bon Ton Bar for 13 years. John volunteered for the Bay County Division on Aging, Eagles Senior Olympics, the Special Olympics, was a lifetime member of the Reserve Officers Assoc., D.A.V., and enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing in his free time. His unique sense of humor and dedication to others will live on for generations to come. John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Beverly of 65 years, and was the most loving and supportive father of Michael (Mary) Schiattone, the late Edward (Ann) Schiattone, Karen (Bill) Ayala, and John (Barbara) Schiattone. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tracie (Matt) Steel, Kristin, Edward “E.J.,” and Vincent Schiattone; great-granddaughter, Harper Steel and sister, Elizabeth DeBats, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, John was welcomed home to heaven by his son, Edward, and siblings, Lena Willett, Pearl Galus, Amelia Vogel, June Barber, Lucille Phelps, Francis Callow, Dan, William, and Charles Schiattone. John’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, December 23, 2017 from 11:00 AM until John’s 12:00 Noon Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with a reception immediately following in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s. The Rite of Committal will be held privately in Floral Gardens Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Bay County Veterans Council.
