Obituary of John Joseph Simon
John Joseph Simon, 92, of Bay City, our loving and devoted, character of a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend went home to heaven on the evening of Monday, October 23, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. John was born in Bay City on May 27, 1925, to the late John and Deby (Ferris) Simon. John served in the Army during World War II and later went on to drive for R&R Cement Truck Company, and worked at Industrial Brown Hoist and Defoe Shipping Yard. He also served as a volunteer Fireman for Hampton Twp. for over 25 years. John met the former Romaine Schmidt, they dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on April 12, 1947. Together they shared 63 wonderful years together, sadly, Romaine predeceased John on March 29, 2009. John was an active parishioner of St. George Byzantine Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching wrestling, baseball, football, and going deer hunting. John will always be remembered for being a very loving father to his 11 children and a devoted friend. John leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Charles, Joseph (Stephanie), Phillip, John T., Jeffrey (Shannon), Dave (Sue), James (Jeannete), Mary Ellen (Donald), Jeannette, and Marjorie (Leonard); step-daughter, Tina Kunkel; grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Wenglikowski, Dana Simon, Christopher Simon (Amanda LaPorte), Kelly (Seth) Moore, and Savannah Simon; great-grandchildren, Brendan and Gavin Wenglikowski, and Grace Moore; sister-in-law, Martha Roulund, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, John was welcomed home to heaven by his daughter, Anne Simon; daughter-in-law, Brenda Simon, and siblings, Mary, Margaret, Jenny, Herman, and Theodore. John’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, October 27, 2017, from 12:00 Noon until the time of his 1:00 PM Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tina Kunkel and family for their care.
