Obituary of Jacqueline "Jackie" O'Polka
Jackie O’Polka, our loving, selfless, and kind-hearted wife, cherished mom, awesome Grammy, beloved sister, super aunt, colorful cousin, and loyal friend passed away on the morning of Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Jackie was born in Lakeview on December 31, 1947, the daughter of the late William Julius and Mary Eleanor (Tenczer) Troll. While at Richie’s Drive-In, the most beautiful woman within sight on the inside and out was spotted by John O’Polka. Jackie and John dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on April 29, 1967. Throughout life, Jackie was known for her unwavering love of her family, pets, and her generous friendships. Always thinking of others first, Jackie was a former volunteer with the March of Dimes and an active volunteer with Bay Medical Care Facility’s Auxiliary. To say Jackie was an animal lover would be an understatement; she was the resident zookeeper and naturally the Humane Society of Bay County always held a special place in her heart. In her later years, Jackie went back to Delta College and worked as a Health Unit Coordinator at Covenant in Saginaw. In Jackie’s free time, she enjoyed doting on her grandchildren, petting her cats, crocheting, gardening, volunteering, and tending to her friendships. Jackie was loved by everyone and will be deeply missed, but always remembered for generations to come. She leaves to cherish her memory, her faithful husband of 50 years, John and their three daughters: Andrea (Andrew) Carolus, Johnna (Stephen) Spencer, and Sara (Alan) Duckmann. Jackie was the beloved and adoring “Grammy” of Alison, John, and Lucy. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her sister, Geraldine Washabaugh; in-laws, Sally O’Polka, Edward O’Polka, Roger Smigiel, Sr., Karen (Rick) Fuller, and Kathy (Timothy) Smith; special cousins Barbara Taylor, Terry "Butch" Heineman, and Emelie "Mitzi" Kushinsky; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends, neighbors, and work colleagues. And last but not least, Jackie's six favorite felines--Whitey, Mimi, Fifi, Oreo Crumbles, Tripod, and OJ--and the always welcomed menagerie of birds, squirrels, visiting neighborhood pets and stray animals. In addition to her parents, Jackie was welcomed home to heaven by her special aunt Mildred Marston; dear uncle John Tenczer; first cousins MaryAnn Tenczer, Phyllis Root, Donald Schwartz, Mildred Tamblyn; in-laws, Joe O’Polka, Patricia Smigiel, Joanne (Joe) Morrell; and her two nephews, Patrick Washabaugh and Timothy Smith Jr. Jackie’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 10:00 AM until Jackie’s 11:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of Bay County or a charity of the donor’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
