Obituary of Joyce Christian
Joyce Christian, 90, of Bay City, our devoted, loving, joyful, and social step-mother, step-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to heaven on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Bayfield Assisted Living. Joyce was born in Dearborn on November 13, 1926, the daughter of the late Paul and Muriel (Williams) Fox. After graduating from high school, Joyce moved to Bay City. She worked as a Lab Technician at Bay City Steel Casting for many years. It was here that she met Earl Christian, Joyce's true love and companion. The two were united in marriage on July 25, 1969. Joyce loved to cook, bake, garden with Earl (their raspberry patch was legendary), listen to music, and spend time with family and friends. Sadly, Earl predeceased Joyce on April 3, 1995. Joyce was an active member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and devoted herself to helping others. In recognition of her volunteer work in the community, in April, 1998, Joyce was awarded the City of Bay City Vital Action Citizen award and the Mayor of Bay City proclaimed April 20, 1998, to be "Joyce Christian Day." In 2007, the Bay County Board of Commissioners awarded Joyce the Diamond Gem award for her volunteer work with the Bay County Division on Aging and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. She also was a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her outstanding dedication to others. Joyce's love of her family and friends and service to others was unrivaled. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, step-children, Thomas Christian of Phoenix, AZ and Tamara Christian of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Christian (Kay) Dodd of Jacksonville, FL, Victoria (Brad) Walgren of Phoeniz, AZ, and Aidan DiCarlo of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren, Joshua Dodd, Ellie Whiteman and Ben Walgren; sister, Marleen (Richard) Treglowne; sons-in-law, Carlos Saldano of Phoenix, AZ and Donald Dodick of Bay City, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of who she loved dearly. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was welcomed home to heaven by her step-children, Diane (Carlos) Saldano of Phoenix, AZ, Connie (Richard) Wichlinski of Bay City; sister, Beverly (Mel) Haynes of California, and by her beloved dog, Buffy. Joyce’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of her 11:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 105 S. Erie St., Bay City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joyce's name to St. Alban's Church (989-892-4135) or the Bay County Department on Aging (989-895-4100).
