Obituary of Kristina "Tina" Sills
Tina Sills, 65, of Bay City, our determined, passionate, and loyal sister, friend, and advocate for the less fortunate was born into eternal life unexpectedly on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Tina was born in Saginaw on July 23, 1952, the daughter of the late James and Amelia “Amy” (Kurecka) Sills. Her fondest memories of growing up were playing cards with high school friends, sledding at Hoyt Park, going for Sunday afternoon drives with her family, Easter Sunday dinner with the Knights, and tap classes with Edwina Wright. She was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and continued her studies at Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Siena Heights College in Adrian, and Western Michigan University. Tina put to good use her master’s degree in counseling by assisting those in need at Samaritan Hospital in the substance abuse unit. She later was employed by Lutheran Child & Family Services of Michigan and the State of Michigan. From 1985 – 2017, Tina worked with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Tina was dedicated to movies, music, and most of all, the theatre, where she was involved in nearly all aspects of Bay City Players through the years. She will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered by her All Saints Parish (St. Boniface) family, where Tina was also very active, serving as the first chair of the combined parish council when St. Boniface, St. James, and Our Lady of Guadalupe merged. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sister, Sister Gretchen Sills, O.P., along with her dear friends, Leeds & Margaret Bird, Larry & Kelly Jacobs, Kurt & Judy Miller, Jim & Kathy Pawloski, along with countless friends at Players and All Saints, who were Tina’s constant support through life. Tina’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for Tina at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, Tina will be taken to All Saints Parish (Church of St. Boniface), 510 N. Lincoln St., Bay City, where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until Tina’s 11:00 AM Memorial Liturgy. Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera and Fr. Stephen J. Fillion will concelebrate with the Rite of Committal to be held at 3:00 PM in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Saginaw. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Bay City Players or All Saints Parish. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
