Obituary of Dan Robert Owen

Dan Robert Owen, 82, of Bay City, our funny, curious, and most kind-hearted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, July 14, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Dan was born in Flint on February 15, 1935, the son of the late Guy Owen and Ethel (Stanley) Owen-Sherman. He was a graduate of T.L. Handy High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army. While on a blind date, Dan met the former Natividad “Natie” Flores. They continued dating, fell in love, and were united in marriage on April 16, 1960. Dan retired from General Motors and was a member of South Baptist Church. He loved his Lord and loved his family with all his heart. He was fluent in Spanish and enjoyed reading, playing the harmonica, watching the news, court shows, and talk shows, tinkering with any and everything, locksmithing, and volunteering with the American Red Cross. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 57 years, Natie Owen and their two children: James Robert Owen and Lisa Ann Owen. His memory will remain alive in the hearts of his sister, Marion Fekete and in-laws, Karen Owen, Robert (Denise) Flores, Ross Flores, Edward Flores, Arthur (Kathie) Flores, Elisa Camacho, Carol Richardson, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Dan was welcomed home to heaven by his son, Dan Robert II; brother, Lynn Owen, father and mother-in-law, Simplicio and Anna (Ballez) Flores, and in-laws, Richard Flores, Arthur Camacho, Martha (Fernando) Velasquez, and Lucy (Jesse) Cadena. Dan’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of Dan’s 11:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Interment will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
