Obituary of Robert John Garvin
Robert John Garvin, 74, of Bay City, our selfless, compassionate, and very hardworking husband, father, “Gramps,” brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the evening of Friday, July 14, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family after a nine-year courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in Mt. Pleasant on October 13, 1942, the son of the late William Garvin and Gertrude (McDonald) Garvin-Kerin. He was a 1960 graduate of Arthur Hill High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army Reserves. While working at Steering Gear, Bob met the former Elizabeth Sauve. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage fifty years ago. Their marriage was blessed with two children and countless memories. Throughout life, Bob was known for his excellent work ethic. He enjoyed dabbling in woodworking, camping, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family. Through all of life’s trials and tribulations, Bob was a true warrior and a constant rock of support for all of those he loved. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of fifty years, Beth Garvin and their two children: Ann Marie (Jim) Lazzaro and Patrick Wm. (Lana) Garvin. Bob was the most caring and loving “Gramps” of Anthony, Kevin, Morgan, Brandon, Rachel, Brayden, Garrett, and Taylor. His memory will live on in the hearts of his two siblings, Betty Kay (Dick) Clements and Michael (Carole) Garvin; his sisters-in-law, Marietta (Ken) Marciniak, Margaret Krantz, Jackie (Bruce) Burkel, Nan (Jim) Hages, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was welcomed home to heaven by his brothers-in-law, Bob Derr and James Krantz. Bob’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 2:00 PM until the time of Bob’s 7:30 PM Vigil at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. In keeping with Bob’s Irish heritage, a Tribute Cocktail Hour & Irish Wake will begin at 6:00 PM on Tuesday evening at Skorupski’s. On Wednesday, July 19, 2017, Bob will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of Bob’s 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. A private Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Active Community Nursing, especially Theresa, for her compassionate and loving care.
