Obituary of Franklin E. "Bob" Russell Jr.

Bob Russell, 80, of Bay City, our loyal, caring, and humorous husband, dad, “Pipi,” brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the afternoon of Monday, May 15, 2017 at his home. Bob was born in Bay City on February 11, 1937, the son of the late Franklin E. Russell, Sr. and Margaret M. (Olsen). He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Boxer as a radioman for four years. While at his twenty-first birthday party, he met the former Mary Catherine Robinson. They were engaged the next day and married on August 2, 1958 in St. James Church. Their marriage of fifty-nine years was blessed with four children and countless memories. Known for his excellent work ethic, after fifty years of service as a carpet installer and later becoming a well-respected carpet salesman, Bob retired from Magic Carpet. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, sports, playing cards – in particular, Euchre, Smear, and Cribbage, along with reading and puzzles of all sorts. He was an amazing husband and father, a devoted Pipi, and an extremely loyal friend. Bob’s memory will live on for generations to come. Bob will forever be missed by his devoted wife, Mary Catherine Russell and their four children: Colleen (Kelly) Beson, Russ Russell, Scott Russell (fiancée, Theresa Overton), Stuart Russell (fiancé, Angie Nalett); grandchildren, Joshua (Jen) Schwab, Stefenie Schwab (fiancé, Joe Barto), Kelsie (Patrick) Peters, Brandon Russell (fiancée, Madison Fitzgerald), Emilee Russell, Tyler (Madison) Russell, Austin Russell, Dustin (Amanda) Russell, Kamy (Andrew) Hawkshaw, Krista Inman; eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; in-laws, Richard Allish, Jeanette Brandel, Sharon and Jim McGrail, Loretta and John Nowakowski, and Robert Robinson, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was welcomed home to heaven by his beloved Father and Mother-in-law, Robert and Loretta Robinson, daughter-in-law, Debbie Russell; sister, Marie Allish, and in-laws, Ward Brandel and Joyce Robinson. Bob’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Sharing of Memories at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. North Union Rd., Bay City, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of Bob’s 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Military honors will immediately follow.
