Obituary of Orrissi "Naomi" Johnson

Orrissi Naomi Johnson, 94, of Essexville, our loving and strong-willed mother, grandmother, and friend was born into eternal life on the evening of Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Close To Home Assisted Living. Naomi was born in Roscommon County on June 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Amos Jay and Carrie Blandina (Hartley) Ellis. While at school, she met Walter Johnson. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on September 12, 1942. Throughout life, Naomi was known for her compassion and care toward others. She was a faithful volunteer at McLaren Bay Region where she worked the front desk and in the surgery lounge for many years. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, where she was a devoted Eucharistic Minister and past president of the Altar Society. In her younger years, Naomi enjoyed swimming, bowling, and planting roses. Known for her strong work ethic, Naomi worked in many clerical positions throughout her lifetime, beginning with the U.S. Navy during World War II, Mercy Hospital, Bay County Department of Social Services, and the State of Michigan. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Barry Johnson, Kathy and husband, Dale Walraven, Walter and wife, Lynette Johnson, Elaine Johnson, and friend, David Maluse; son-in-law, Larry Andrews, along with 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Naomi was welcomed home to heaven by her husband Walter in 2006; daughter, Louise in 2008; son, David in 2014; brother, Robert Ellis, and step-sisters, Esther and Ellen.
