Obituary of Bobby J. "BJ" Snyder
Bobby J. “BJ” Snyder, 87, of Essexville, our loving father, “Grandpa Bob,” brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, March 25, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Bobby was born in Bay City on November 29, 1929, to the late George and Ella (Jean) Snyder. At the age of fourteen, he met the former Caroline Shillair. They exchanged a promise of marriage and were united on June 28, 1952 at St. Norbert Church. Sadly, Caroline preceded Bobby in death on October 17, 2014. Bobby served in the U.S. Navy for six years, where among other things, he was a cook and a barber. He continued his barbering after his service and also worked at DeFoe Shipbuilding. Bobby retired from General Motors as a welder. Known for his excellent story telling skills and curious ways, Bobby wrote and had his book, “The Wrong Foot” published, telling of his time spent in the service. Bobby was a self-made man and enjoyed studying and practicing hypnotism, song writing, working on automobiles, and dabbling with computers and photography. He was a true “Jack of all trades” and along with Caroline and his children, built the family home. He leaves to cherish his memory his four children, Judy Kuligowski, Mary Jane Pollard, Mickey and husband, Richard Awrey, and Kirk and wife, Joan Snyder. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine and husband, Richard Gavord; in-laws, Dian Snyder, Leona “Tootsie” Snyder, Joe and wife, Marion Shillair, Edna Schoof, along with many nieces, nephews, and his special Navy buddy, Bert and his wife, Marian of Oregon. In addition to his parents and his wife, Bobby was welcomed home to heaven by his brothers, Donald, Gerald, Richard, and Kenneth Snyder; his sisters, Betty Walker and Shirley Mistura, and many in-laws. Bobby’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of Bobby’s 11:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N.
