Obituary of Gerald James Hogan
Gerald James Hogan, 88, of Bay City our loving and devoted husband to Elaine (Lukowski) and father to three daughters, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Jerry was born in Bay City on October 28, 1928, the son of the late Robert and Lois (Leavins) Hogan. A proud graduate from Bay City Central, he then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a medic. Jerry met the former Elaine Lukowski while at a dance, they fell in love and were united in marriage on October 3, 1953. They were blessed with sixty-three years of married life together, three daughters, four grandsons, one granddaughter, four great-grandchildren and a baby girl on the way in July. We shared countless memories together as a family. Jerry retired from the Midland Daily News as a printer after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish and had a favorite patron saint, St. Jude, that he prayed to often. Jerry enjoyed golfing and ice fishing in early retirement years. He was an avid sports fan of the Detroit Pistons, Michigan basketball and football teams. He watched the Detroit Lions for 50 years and often said they will break your heart. He looked forward to spending time with his Army buddies at the regular 388’s luncheon. Jerry will forever be remembered above all for his unwavering love of his wife, three daughters, and grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory, Elaine and their three daughters: Beth Ann (David) Siefert, Susan Mary (Terry) Brandow, and Nancy Ellen (David) Wagner. Jerry was a loving Papa to Matthew (Jen) Siefert, Andrew (Christine) Siefert, John Siefert, Jacob Wagner, and Sarah Wagner. His memory will remain alive in the hearts of his great-grandchildren: Logan, Conner, Zoeyann, and Noah; his brother, Robert Hogan, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Hogan, Wilma Hogan, and Patricia Goetz. Jerry’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of his 11:00 AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Stanislaus Kostka Church), 1503 Kosciuszko Ave, Bay City. Fr. Rick Filary will officiate with military honors to follow. A private Rite of Committal will be held at St. Patrick’s Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
