Obituary of Joyce Mook
Joyce Ann Mook, 81, of Bay City, formerly of Saginaw, our helpful and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday, January 25, 2017 at her home. Joyce was born in Saginaw on June 26, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph and Martha (Waterstradt) Katzenberger. She graduated from Saginaw High School and while riding horses met the love of her life, David C. Mook. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on September 24, 1955. Sadly, David preceded her in death in 2006. Joyce worked at Robertson’s Dry Cleaners, Petrolane, and was the dedicated secretary of the former St. James Lutheran Church in Saginaw. Throughout her service to the church, Joyce was the compassionate and friendly face assisting many in need with the food bank. She enjoyed time spent at the family cabin in Evart on Lake Lure, enjoyed knitting hats for the underprivileged, and was an avid reader. Joyce raised her family to be faithful and to always believe. Family always came first and she was proud to have surprised her son David at numerous stops throughout the country when the Bridgeport Marching Band was on the road as the national champions (1974-1975). Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her son David M. (Ellen) Mook and grandchildren, Donald (Heather), Erik (Jenessa), Christopher (Martha), Matthew, Ezra (Danielle), Amber (James), Jedidiah (Danielle), and Kayla (Doug). She was the loving “Grama Curly Top” and will remain alive in the hearts of her great-grandchildren, Saree, Logan, Leander, Violet, and Madison. Joyce is also survived by her sister, Arlene Polzin, sister-in-law, Rosemary Lee, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Joyce was welcomed home to heaven by her son, Matthew H. Mook; brother, Frederick (Hazel) Katzenberger; sisters, Irma (Clarence) Frost, Marian (Elmer) Prueter, and Doris (Edwin “Junior") Gubbins, along with her brother-in-law, Robert Polzin. Joyce’s family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 1:00 PM until the time of her 3:00 PM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. A Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s. Private interment has been held in Oakwood Cemetery, Saginaw. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
