Obituary of Kenneth Ulreich
Kenneth Frederick Ulreich, Jr., 55, of Auburn, our courageous, loving, supportive, strong, and above all our true hero of a husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the morning of Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Toni & Trish House after a courageous battle with cancer. Ken was born on February 9, 1961 in Huntington, New York, the son of Kenneth Frederick and Helen (Rowohlt) Ulreich, Sr. Ken grew up with the New York Mets and enjoyed all of the happenings in his eastern Long Island neighborhood. Ken graduated from Hauppauge High School in 1979, where he was a member of the marching band, where he played the saxophone. This led to his love for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. He went on to begin basic training on July 12, 1979, proudly served in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on July 11, 1983. After the military, Ken studied drafting and CAD drafting. While at a cocktail party, Ken met the former Gail Krysiak, who actually was being set up with a different gentleman who happened to stand her up that night. Both knew immediately they had found "the one!" After 15 months of dating and falling in love, Ken and Gail were united in marriage on November 8, 1986 in Wakefield, Rhode Island during a torrential rainstorm. Ken worked as a drafter in New York and Rhode Island. He was hired by Enbridge Energy in January of 1989 and moved to Auburn, where he worked as an electrical technician for the majority of his time until becoming ill. Ken and Gail were blessed with three children, Katrina, Tyler, and Jacob. Throughout every step of their lives, Ken was always there for his kids, participating, coaching, and guiding them to the next level. He was an active coach with the Auburn-Williams Little League and was a dedicated baseball, softball, and even continued as a basketball coach. Ken also enjoyed traveling, visiting Civil War battlefields, and studying American history. You could always tell which books on the bookshelves and shared Kindles were Ken's! When thinking of Ken, you can't help but recall his true love for the New York Mets and New York Rangers; he was proud of passing this love onto his children and converting his wife into an avid fan. In addition to his one true love, Gail and their three wonderful children, Ken leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Helen Ulreich of Middle Island, New York; siblings, Barbara (Jerry) Adams of Beavercreek, Ohio and Nancy (Thomas) Walsh of Pelham Manor, New York; mother-in-law, Joyce Krysiak of Duluth, Minnesota; Godchildren, Justin Adams and Casey Walsh, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Ken was welcomed home to heaven by his father, Kenneth Ulreich, Sr., and his father-in-law, James Krysiak. Ken's family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 4:00 PM until the time of his 7:00 PM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N.
