Joanne Margaret Ursula DeCorte, 85, of Bay City, our family-oriented, joyous, most compassionate, and unconditional loving mother, “Gramma Jo”, sister, aunt, and friend was born into eternal life on the morning of Monday, December 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Joanne was born in Bay City on May 3, 1932, the daughter of the late Francis and Lillian (O’Neill) Hagens. She was a 1950 graduate of St. John’s High School and went on to a career at Bay Medical Center, prior to retiring in 1994. While attending a friend’s wedding in 1955, she met Jack DeCorte. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on April 21, 1956 in St. James Church. Sadly, Jack predeceased Joanne in 1971. Throughout life, Joanne was known for her love of singing, playing the piano, and the Detroit Tigers. Joanne never met a stranger and was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Joanne had a zest for life and a compassion for people that was unparalleled. She was the life of the party, included everyone, and provided steadfast support and encouragement to others throughout her life. She was the best hand holder and often didn’t want to let go until she had to. She loved sharing life with her family, friends, and community, and she truly lived the commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you.” She was very proud of her family and her humble legacy of service and joyful living will live on for generations to come. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Marques (Julia) DeCorte, Marian (Gilbert) Narvaiz, Matthew DeCorte, Maureen (James) Hall, Robert DeCorte; grandchildren, Gilbert, Geremy, and Ginell Narvaiz; Callie, Jackson, and Makenzie DeCorte, and Joshua and Patrick Hall; great-grandson, Brylon Narvaiz; siblings, Fidelis Walmsley, James (Lyn) Hagens, Patricia (Daniel) Dettmer, William (Noel) Hagens; daughter-in-law, Judy DeCorte; lifelong friends, Betty Super, Chet and Millie Pawloski, Irene Rzepa, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joanne was welcomed home to heaven by her husband Jack, and in-laws, Lee (Grace) DeCorte and Gerry (James) White. Joanne’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Friday, December 8, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a 7:30 PM Vigil for Joanne at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N.
