Olive Elizabeth (Stager) Butler, 94, of Bay City, our strong-willed, creative, witty, caring, and most humorous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday, November 9, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Olive was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 2, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Olive (Smyth) Stager. On December 6, 1941 in Jefferson City, MO, Olive was united in marriage to Rev. William E.Butler. While he served, Olive worked at the St. Louis Arsenal during World War II and moved on to become the supervisor of the toy department at Stix Baer & Fuller. She was also a library technician and dedicated homemaker. Throughout life, Olive was known for her love of sewing, quilting, crafts, and most of all – her family. Olive leaves to cherish her memory, her two children: Joy Butler and Paul (Jada) Butler; grandchildren, Aaron Butler (Carrie Krzyminski), Luke Butler (Diana Solmonson); great-grandchildren, Morgan, Hayden, Cecilia, and Guinevere Butler; sister, Connie (Robert) Nellesen; brother, Bruce Stager, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Olive was welcomed home to heaven by her husband, Rev. William E. Butler, who preceded her in December of 1998; granddaughter, Rachel Mrkvicka, and two siblings: Jackey Norton and Frank Stager. Private arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski’s. A memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
