Betty Caroline Bearse, 95, of Essexville, our strong-willed, happy, and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, November 3, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Betty was born at home in Bay City on December 26, 1921, the daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Engelhardt) Nickel. She graduated from Bay City Central with the Class of 1939 and went on to business college at the Northeastern School of Commerce. Betty was united in marriage on September 7, 1949 to Robert Bearse. Sadly, Robert preceded Betty in death in 1986. Betty worked as a church secretary at First Presbyterian Church, Levine’s Mattress Company, and eventually retired from Morgan’s Automotive, where she was the bookkeeper. In her free time, Betty enjoyed bingo, golf, playing cards with her family, reading, and visiting the casino every now and then. Her greatest joy in life was her children. A loving and supportive mother and friend to all, Betty’s genuine and devoted ways will live on for generations to come. She leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters: Susan Bearse and husband, Don Kocubinski and Mary Jo and husband, Dale Zajac. Betty was the loving and supportive grandmother of Matthew and wife, Colleen Kocubinski, Julia Kocubinski and husband, Evan Phillippe, Jeremy and wife, Pam Zajac, Randy Zajac, and Mike and wife, Sarah Zajac. Her memory will remain alive in the hearts of her eight great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); sister, Mary Ellen and husband, Len Alton; in-laws, Charles Morgan and Dee Nickel, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Faye Nickel, Fern Warfield, George Nickel, Sally Dalton, Dorothy Giffel, and Sandi Morgan. Betty’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 9:00 AM until the time of Betty’s 11:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N.
